about

I wrote this during rehearsals for 'Eurydice', a play directed by Missy Cross in 2011. I was playing Orpheus, the great musician who lost his love Eurydice when she was sent to the Underworld after being bitten by a Viper. He tried everything to find her, and I related to his obsessive behavior in the arena of love.

lyrics

Dear Eurydice – by Patrick Spencer

G D G
If you tried to walk away I’d steal your shoes
G D Em C
Those ones look so good on you, I’d let you chose the shoes to lose
G D Am C
I’m running out of options, there’s no telling what I’ll do.
G D C D G
If you tried to walk away, I would steal your shoes
(same)
If you tried to take a train, I’d lie down on the track
I’d race you to the station and BUST my way in from the back
They would try to stop me but I would not put up with that
If you tried to take a train, I’d lie down on the track

Am Bm D
I’ll steal your keys- then I’d sell your car
Am Bm D
I’ll destroy your bicycle, those legs can take you pretty far
G D Em C
And I think they are lovely just exactly where they are
G D Em C
I think they are lovely just exactly where they are
G D C D G
If you commandeered a captain, I would cover up the stars.

G D G
IF you met another man I’d punch him in the face
G D Em C
Violence makes me angry, but this would be a special case cause
G D Am C
Seeing you with someone else is simply more than I can take
G D C D G
If you met another man I’d punch him in the face

Am Bm C
I’ll steal your keys- then I’d sell your car
Am Bm C
I’ll destroy your bicycle, those legs can take you pretty far
G D Em C
And I think they are lovely just exactly where they are
G D Em C
I think they are lovely just exactly where they are
G D Em C
I think they are lovely just exactly where they are
G D C D G
If you commandeered a captain, I would cover up the stars.

G D G
If we had a bunch of kids I’d buy a babysitter
G D Em C
Chase you down with my guitar, begging you to reconsider
G D Am C
And if you wouldn’t listen I would follow you on twitter
G D C D G
If we had a buncha kids I’ll buy a babysitter.

Em D C
So don’t leave me behind
Em D C
It took so long to find you and because of you I’ve lost my mind
G D Em C
But all my strange behavior is a blessing in disguise
G D Em C
all my strange behavior is a blessing in disguise
G D Em C
50 years from now, you are bound to realize
G D C D G
That all my strange behavior is a blessing in disguise

Coldwater Road Vancouver, British Columbia

Founded by Patrick Spencer in 2012, CwRoad gives folk music a reason to dance. Waltzing between love songs and foot-stomping murder ballads, there's a story for everyone. Their style reaches across Folk, Americana, Rock, and Country; like Don McLean sitting in with the Lumineers. Coldwater Road is a five-piece folk/rock group with rich harmonies and driving rhythm. ... more
